
10/05/2005 - PHILIP SPEAR JOINS WEAVER AND TIDWELL AS STATE AND LOCAL TAX SENIOR MANAGER
DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Weaver and Tidwell announces the addition of Philip B. Spear, CPA, as State and Local Tax (SALT) Senior Manager. With offices in Dallas and Fort Worth, Weaver and Tidwell is ranked by Practical Accountant magazine as the Southwest’s largest regional independent accounting firm.
In his new position, Spear will lead the firm’s SALT services group in state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, property tax, nexus, audit management and credits and incentives. He will work from both Weaver and Tidwell’s Dallas and Fort Worth offices, splitting his time between the two locations each week to accommodate the firm’s clients in both cities.

Spear has 21 years of experience in federal, state, and local tax matters. He has worked in the U.S. and abroad performing multi-state income and franchise tax minimization planning projects, multi-state sales/use tax planning projects, and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. He has significant experience in supervising state income tax audits, sales/use tax audits, and reverse audits, as well as representing clients during contested state income tax audits and filing federal and state income tax returns for consolidated groups and partnerships.
Prior to joining Weaver and Tidwell, Spear served as a consultant for six years to both public and private companies, assisting clients with a variety of state and local tax services and contested state tax audits. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a M.S. in Accountancy from Boise State University.
